Specializing in Fantasy Literature

I was senior editor at Grimdark Magazine, a professional, quarterly e-zine featuring the top names and brightest newcomers in dark fantasy fiction, for six years.  I edited all stories and content for GdM from January 2016 to November 2022.  I also edited all stories in and the introduction to the 2017 Reddit r/fantasy Stabby-award-winning anthology, Evil is a Matter of Perspective, released in March 2017.  Some of the authors whose stories and columns I've edited include Locus Award winner R. Scott Bakker, Nebula Award winner Aliette de Bodard, Arthur C. Clark Award winner Adrian Tchaikovsky, Reddit Fantasy Stabby Award winner Michael R. Fletcher, Bram Stoker nominee James A. Moore, Writer of the Future winner T. R. Napper, and lots more.  I have also worked on non-fiction for the brilliant design professor, Alex Wright, on his Oxford-published monograph, Cataloging the World: Paul Otlet and the Birth of the Information Age.  I have also edited novels recently for award-winning authors Rob J Hayes and Eileen Mueller.

About Me

I have a BA in British literature from Brown University, an MA in British and American literature from California State, an MS in English language arts education from Long Island University, and an MBA from University of South Florida.

"I like to think I’m a pretty good author these days but any story needs to see an editor with a big red pen and an angry disposition (I’m looking at Grimdark Magazine on this one, they have a very angry, but superb, editor)."

Testimonials

Rob J. Hayes, author of The Heresy Within (The Ties That Bind Book 1) and The Fifth Empire of Man (Best Laid Plans Book 2) and also SPFBO finalist Never Die, which I edited.

"Mike’s editing style is reminiscent of an old school boxing coach. He relentlessly focuses on the fundamentals, his advice is full of practical wisdom and he doesn’t pull any punches when pointing out when the text is failing. He’s the editor every writer wants in his corner. Highly recommended."

Peter Fugazzotto, author of “The King Beneath the Waves” Grimdark Magazine #3 and a World Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
“Mike has edited two of my books, and added tremendous value on both occasions. He is the kind of close reader every writer should want, with great narrative instincts, a laser eye for detail, and a masterly command of English grammar and usage. Each time I've handed Mike a manuscript, he's made it markedly better.
Alex Wright, author of Cataloging the World: Paul Otlet and the Birth of the Information Age (Oxford University) and Glut: Mastering Information Through the Ages (Cornell University).
"Mike Myers is a fucking genius editor, and consistently delivers excellent editing jobs to top-tier authors accustomed to working with the best from the big publishing houses. He does it better than I could even if I trained for a decade to do it. And that’s okay. We work well as a team because of it."

Adrian Collins, editor in chief, Grimdark MagazineFrom Fantasy Hive blog June 15, 2018.

'''Bloody Roots' is in the books, and much stronger for y'alls help--please do pass along my profuse thanks to Mike, he may well be the best editor I've worked with and I always learn something new from each pass he makes."

Alex Marshall, author of The Crimson Empire series (Orbit), for Grimdark Magazine story "Bloody Roots." From email to editor-in-chief, December 2019 (used with permission).

"Mike is an awesome editor."

ML Spencer, author of The Rhenwars Saga and The Chaos Cycle, for Grimdark Magazine story "Guardian of the Grove." From email to editor-in-chief, November 2019 (used with permission).
